Month of the Library

February is Library Lovers' Month !

POEM
MY LIBRARY
by Varda One

It's only a room with shelves and books,
but it's far more magical than it looks

It's a jet on which I soar
to lands that exist no more.

Or a key with which I find
answers to questions crowding my mind.

Building my habit of learning and growing,
asking and researching till I reach knowing.

Here, I've been a mermaid and an elf
I've even learned to be more myself.

I think that I shall never see
a place that's been more useful to me.

With encouraging kind friends with wit
Who tell me to dream big and never quit.

It's only a room with shelves and books,
but it's far more magical than it looks.

Playtime

I thought this could be fun to play with -- the Fake Cyrillic Generator (FДКЗ CУЯILLIC GЗИЗЯДTФЯ ) SДЯДH

And in these trying times how about Ecofont. It is based on the sans serif Verdana font and has “holes” added to individual characters to save printer ink (claim: use up to 20% less ink). neat & wierd

Would you like to find out if you're Smarter Than a 5th Grader? or see what you know about dog behavior by trying this interactive from National Geographic: The Dog Whisperer. It shows short videos of misbehaving dogs, and then you have to diagnose the problem by picking from several choices.

Thsrs “The Shorter Thesaurus” is different. After you type in a word it will only show you words that have fewer letters than the word you typed.

Playericious is a neat little tool -- you type in a tag, then all the bookmarked sites on Delicious and Magnolia that have that tag “play” on the screen.

Ruth Bell Graham's Poetry

The Man I Prayed For

Dear God, I prayed, all unafraid

(as we’re inclined to do),

I do not need a handsome man

but let him be like You;

I do not need one big and strong

nor yet so very tall,

nor need he be some genius,

or wealthy, Lord, at all;

but let his head be high, dear God,

and let his eye be clear,

his shoulders straight, whate’er his state,

whate’er his earthly sphere;

and let his face have character,

a ruggedness of soul,

and let his whole life show, dear God,

a singleness of goal;

then when he comes

(as he will come)

with quiet eyes aglow,

I’ll understand that he’s the man

I prayed for long ago.

.

In Her Own Words

They say

I must not care so much,

or feel so deeply.

I shouldn't study

or read depressing books

like Under the Rubble,

or China Today.

Rather, I should play, read Agatha Christie,

and relax.

Which would mean

bottling up my deepest concerns,

turning off my mind,

and growing bored.

But heart and mind have

no faucets--"Hot" and "cold,"

no switch for

"on" and "off."

Cannot one live

with concern,

read deeply,

and still relax?

Concern, undergirded

with confidence,

knowing that God

is in control.
